Overview
The Hub working in close collaboration with the Kenya Association
of Manufacturers towards the re-launch of the Kenya Shippers' Council
(KSC) as an independent body hosted a breakfast meeting of leaders
of interested business associations to brief them on the restructuring
and reactivation plan of the KSC prepared under Hub's technical
assistance. Hub Transport Advisor made a presentation on the Hub's
general activities in the region and in particular, on support
to Private Sector Associations such as that provided to the KSC.
A presentation of the analysis report recommended that the Shipper's
form a strong, united body that represents their interests at the
highest levels of government and dialogue with shipping lines,
their agents, C&F Agents, Port authorities, Hauliers and other
interested parties. An interim committee was elected to move the
process to formal establishment of the Council forward in accordance
with the existing constitution. It was also recommended that a
General Meeting of members be held before end year to elect/appoint
office bearers and initiate action on areas of concern.
Attendees included representatives of KAM and other associations
involved in Coffee, Tea, Cement, Sisal, Petroleum, Brewing, Horticulture
and Rolling Mills industries; Kenya Private Sector Association;
USAID/East Africa and the Hub.
